What is Semax?

In short: Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide developed in Russia, sold mostly in nasal format for research use only. It is studied in cognitive and neurological research; the human literature is small and mostly Russian, never FDA-reviewed. Semax is not FDA-approved. A July 2026 FDA advisory vote (8–5–1) recommended it for the 503A Bulks List, changing nothing in law.

Semax is a synthetic peptide developed in Russia and studied in cognitive and neurological research. Unlike most compounds in this market, it is sold primarily in a nasal format rather than as an injectable vial — one reason it draws interest from buyers who would never consider an injection-format product.

The basics

What the evidence actually shows

The human literature on Semax consists of small studies, predominantly Russian, that have never been through FDA review. That is a thinner base than marketing in this niche usually implies. Claims circulating in vendor copy about the nasal format's absorption come from guides and sellers, not from FDA-reviewed data, and should be read as claims.

Semax is frequently sold alongside Selank, a related research peptide studied in anxiety research, also in small Russian trials. Selank is the more commoditised of the two: price tracking (PeptidePrices, checked 24 October 2026) found a lowest tracked 10 mg listing of $17.70 across 21 offers - a useful benchmark for what "normal" pricing looks like in this market.

Regulatory status (October 2026)

At the FDA's Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee meeting on 23–24 July 2026, Semax received one of the strongest votes of the session: 8–5–1 to recommend adding it to the 503A Bulks List. The same caveats apply as for every compound in that vote:

What Semax costs

Price tracking by PeptidePrices (checked 24 October 2026) shows the lowest 10 mg listing at $17.84 across 20 offers, while trade-level prices sit well below retail. Nasal-format bottles are also listed in this market. The spread between the cheapest and most expensive listings for identical items is the story of this whole market; the tracked ranges for every compound we cover are on the price-comparison page.
